Clint Loake fought off tough competition from French bodyboarder Olivier Brosson to win the 2006 Drop-Knee Open in 2-3ft onshore surf at the Barge Aground. The first semi-final was dominated by Loake, who scored a very high 8 out of 10 from the panel of judges for the better of his two heat scoring waves. Also advancing to the final was Steve McPhee, competing in his first ever contest. McPhee a bodyboarder known especially for his drop-knee riding, found some good rides to eliminate the more experienced Colin Crowther. Brosson, a visiting member from the nearby Normandy Bodyboard Club, always rides his bodyboard 100% drop-knee, and this showed as he demonstrated good style on his way to winning the second of the semi-finals. The battle for the runner up spot was close, with junior bodyboarder David Speller just beating Steve Pinzari and Seb Bonnier into 3rd and 4th places respectively. The final saw some great action with Brosson opening a good lead, performing a difficult back-hand snap on the most critical part of one of the bigger waves to come through. Loake then brought himself back into contention, with a back-hand wave with two snaps of his own. Brosson found a second high scoring wave to open up a strong lead again. However Loake fought back again, this time with what turned out to be the winning wave, making two fast reverse 360 spins on a long right-hander. A nice off the lip forward 360 helped McPhee into 3rd place, ahead of Speller in 4th. Results
