Bodyboard Championships 2005 Aiden Dixon is the new Channel Island bodyboard champion following a spectacular display of bodyboarding at the 2005 Earth Wind & Water C.I. Bodyboard Championships, held by the Jersey Bodyboarders on Saturday. With stormy conditions and a large swell running, the organisers were fortunate to be able to stage the championships at one of the islands premier bodyboarding spots Greve De Lecq. Although the waves were not as big as originally expected, there were still good 3ft waves coming through. In the Open Division there were some strong performances, amongst them Pete Bolam who pulled into, rode, and then exited the best barrel of the event in his first heat, scoring big points from the panel of judges. Other good performances came from the more experienced bodyboarders, with Terry Oliviera performing a nice roll on one good wave, Stefano Ricci, spinning of the lip of another, and finally senior bodyboarders Simon Watkins, Andy De La Mare and Colin Crowther all finding their share of good waves too. It was Dixon, who stole the show though, finding a perfectly lined up left hander to launch into a huge ARS in spectacular style, to easily outscore the opposition and win his first ever Channel Island title. In the Junior Division it was Phil Le Neveu who retained his title for the second consecutive year, scoring more then double the points of his nearest rival David Speller in second. 3rd and 4th places went to contest newcomers Pascal Quemener and Greg Sanderson. Speller, recently crowned a World Champion during the recent World Surf Kayak Championships, was soon back in the water again for the next division, the drop-knee final, where he excelled, taking the honours against a strong field of experienced drop-knee riders, including Colin Laurent and Andy De La Mare. The Jersey Bodyboarders would like to thank Earth Wind & Water for their kind sponsorship of this event. Full Results: Open Drop Knee Junior Senior |
