Weekend in Guernsey

Colin CrowtherWith only a week to go until my second surfers ear operation of the year, and with a good swell forecast, I took the 15 minute Aurigny flight to Guernsey for a long weekend of swell chasing.

Saturday was spent being a tourist whilst the winds blew onshore and there was little sign of the incoming swell. A late surf check before dark showed that things were picking up though, with waist to chest high sets on the uptide at Vazon.

I awoke first light on Sunday morning and peered out the hotel window to see the sea booming over the sea wall and into the hotel car park on what was one of the highest tides of the year.

A short sketchy drive later along the debris strewn coast road took us to Richmond Kiosk, home of Centres, a high tide spot, which sees big sets break on the outside reef, a good right hander itself, that then backs-off and reforms into wedging peaks on the high tide sandbank. This was to be my home for the next two mornings, with good fun rights at high tide, which developed into good lefts on the drop.

All in all it was a good fun weekend with good waves and well worth checking out when conditions come together.
